Understanding Net Neutrality and Why You Should Continue To Care
With net neutrality in place, essentially all information is allowed to flow freely over the internet on equal terms. Without it, internet service providers (ISPs) could block, slow, or give preferential treatment to any sites they want, potentially limiting choices and costing consumers more money.¹
The current status of Net Neutrality will hurt “consumers”; meaning it will hurt almost the entire population if you’re an Internet user, especially so if your business utilizes the Internet for business. This should NOT be a political issue; rather one of common sense. Absolute power corrupts absolutely.
In December, Trump FCC Chairman Ajit Pai—a former top lawyer for Verizon—pushed through a measure to end net neutrality and let Big Cable companies control which websites and apps you use, where you get your news, how you listen to music and watch videos — everything you do on the internet.²
Personal Agendas and Lies
Nothing new under the sun as the saying goes. To make things worse, we’re a very busy nation, however, hopefully not too busy to take a moment to embrace truth regarding this very important issue. The FCC has spread lies in their attempt to repeal and sustain the repeal of Net Neutrality.
What’s At Stake
And remember what we’re fighting for: Without net neutrality, the internet will look more like cable TV, where the content we see is controlled by corporations like Comcast and Verizon. We can’t afford to see the open internet—a revolutionary medium where the exchange of ideas, democratic participation and the ability to organize, especially among marginalized communities, has flourished—fall to the control of corporate gatekeepers.² ~ stopthefcc.net
